A sucker for a sob story and a cute chinny face, Bummble touched something in me and I arranged to collect her from Donna in May 2005. She immediately became part of The Manor crew and lived with Chloe and then Kerri in a Paul Spooner wooden framed cage in my bedroom (with it's own custom made underfloor heated nest box and cushions
Bummble was so gentle and sweet - she used to have a habit of peeping gently at you when you held her and when she was out for a run. Despite having incurable bumblefoot she lived a full life. She was so good when we needed to dress her feet (she sported all sorts of "footwear" and bandages and never chewed them) and although the wounds never fully healed she was more than happy to let me treat them and she'd hold her legs out while I bandaged them - we had the process down to a fine art.
Bummble was about 9 years old when Donna rescued her - when she began to grind her teeth a few weeks ago I took her to see Jade and we decided not to perform any invasive examinations or procedures - Bummble had been through too much already in her little life and at 13+ I did not want her pulled about. She had no obvious problems on initial examination but there was definitely something "not quite right". Her breathing was also a bit dodgy so anaesthetic was going to be far more risky than usual. Following a long discussion we decided to start Bummble on Metacam and monitor her closely. She was eating, drinking, and behaving normally.
At the end of last week Bummble's breathing changed for the worse (although she was not in any distress) and I decided to give her a peaceful and dignified forever sleep - we had a lovely weekend pottering about and eating lots of naughty things. I took her to see Jade for one last time last night and she slipped away very peacefully.
It was an absolute privilege to have Bummble at Monty's Manor - one of the sweetest personalities I have met in a chin and one of the most endearing faces I have seen.
The Manor is not the same without you, Bummble - sleep well sweety - I hope you're pottering about with your little head tilt and peeping to your heart's content.
Night night, little one. I'll never forget you. Click to view attachment
