Nibbles
I have a very smart chinchilla who we love very much. However, there is a problem, she is eating her way through our furniture. I am afraid that we are going to go sit down on our futon one day and it will fall to the floor. Is there anything we can do to discourage her from doing this? If she gets a chance she loves to eat rubber and cords so we have become very careful to unplug everything and cover everything the best we can. This is our first chinchilla and we are out of ideas. She is 10 months old and knows when she has done something she is not suppose to because she will go run into her cage and hide in her house. Can someone please help us ?!?!?

Honestly, chins love to chew and there's not much you can do really! smile.gif Perhaps a designated play area that is 'chin-proofed' in the sense that it's safe (no wires/bad things she can chew) and nothing you don't want her to chew as well. Just a note- if you choose the bathroom, make SURE the toilet seat is ALWAYS down as many have had scary surprises and even had chins die from falling in the toilet sad.gif

You can get a liquid that may put them off chewing precious items from CFPNP BUT it doesn't work for all chins Dunno.gif

Mine all know the word NO, it means stop for a moment, but bookmark that item it 'winds her up' and gains attention :wink3:

There is not a lot you can do as chins are constant chewers and will chew practically everything doh.gif

Mine come out for their 'free runs' in my hallway. They get the hall, the stairs and the landing to play on and the only damage that they can do is nibble the skirting boards. I do try to cover the skirting boards up with sheets etc, but they seem to dive underneath and still chew help.gif

We have even gone to the desperate measures of stripping all the wallpaper off the walls in the hall, stairs and landing as the little devils were chewing the paper too yikes.gif So now .... the walls are just plain bare and painted Dunno.gif

Yeah, there isn't much you can do, they love to chew!! biggrin.gif:

I tried something called Bitter Apple to spray on what I didn't want them to chew on but unfortunately mine don't mind the taste and say " " to me LOL
