Hi all, Well, chuckie and i have been back to uni a week and tommorrow he has to go back home without me.
He has to go back tomoz with my parents cos the vet wants to see him again.

Following last weeks poss bladder infection / heart murmur / tooth abcess drama he has been on Septrin all week and has seemed better.

Problem is he is tired and sleeping a lot at the mo and he has lost another 30g now.
he still comes out to play with sooty and have baths in the evening and is still eating but im worried bout this weight loss.

The vet is gonna give him x-rays tomoz of his teeth and his bladder incas he has bladder stones.

Im worried tho about the aneasthetic esp with his heart and him not feeling great as well.

Also should i send sooty home too? they live together and i dont want to stress him out by seperating them but alsoo i dont want sooty to upset him if he's feelig rough after the anaesthetic.????

Has anyone's chin had bladder stones? what about tooth probs?

Hes only 7, not too old but im really worried bout him.

mum and dad (bless them!) are gonna drive up (2hrs!) in the morn and drive him straight back (another 2 hours) to the vets.

i suppose one good point is im on call this weekend so have the home and mobile numbers of about 13 vets, 30 nurses plus 4 lab techincians so i can annoy everyone bout him getting the best care.

Dunno about bladder stones but I'm familiar with tooth problems. Chins are pretty strong buggers even when they're feeling down and even with the weight loss he should be fine with the anesthetic for the x-rays. I'm sure if the heart murmur was a problem with the anesthetic the vet wouldn't do it so I'm guessing if you have a good vet then the vet would know right?

Not sure about Sooty, it might help for him to have someone there when he comes back from the vet. Even if he's feeling a little sleepy he might want someone to snuggle to Dunno.gif Your call if you think it might help him biggrin.gif couldn't hurt.

Also, 7 yrs old is older than my chins with tooth problems. Rabble was less than 3 yrs old and Scarlet isn't even a year old yet.

Hope the little guy is feeling better soon hug4.gif

Yeah i do have total faith in my vet - he is a specialist in guineas and rabbits but knows a fair bit about chinnys too plus they have an amazing hospital with so much equipment most places dont even dream of and an on site lab which they do blood tests and urine tests before and after all surgeries to make sure they are fine. (i know cos i used to work there)

Is 7 old for a chin? he still seems very happy and untill last week he has never had a prob, he had his eye probs but they never really bothered him as such.

isn't old at all!!

I'm sure Chuckie will be fine, their stronger than they look!!

let us know how it goes!!

Yes, never underestimate a chin. They're sturdy little animals for being so small. Best of luck to you and Chuckie. hug4.gif

I've had some quite poorly chins survive the anaesthetic so try not to worry hug4.gif it sounds as though you have a great vet practise there, that must be a great relief to you.

Good luck Chuckie getwell.gif

Hey all,

Ok so today mum and dad came up to Swansea and picked him up. They took him to the vets and she has decided to keep him in overnight. sad.gif
She wants to do all the x-rays tomorrow so that if they find bladder or kidney stones they can keep him asleep and take them out at the same time. Poor thing. A night in kennels with cats, no peanuts and no sand!!! But all my friends at the lab are gonna go give him hugs for me in the morn before he goes in.

The vet says his bladder is still really sore and he won’t let her feel it so she can’t tell if there is anything there or not.

Poor chucks
plus where he’s not feeling well he wont even tolerate sooty - he wont allow him near him and bites him when he gets close so poor sooty is here and chuckie is at the vets in Gloucester hours away. (Gizmo doesn’t care cos he hates chinchillas smile.gif )

Lonely chins, lonely me!!
-chinquest_*
hug4.gif He's in the best possible hands crossfingers.gif he gets sorted tomorrow and starts on the road to recovery.
Fernx
Yippee!!!

Ok so chukie came home last night (to my parents house) and he is ok, no bladder stones or kindey/liver functions problems.

The vet did say tho that he has a couple of tooth root abcess's. Does anyone know what that would mean long term?
He said its fine for now and to keep him on the anitbiotics for a few more days but now he is eating normally again it should be fine.

Bit sad.gif tho cos i cant go home and get him this weekend now cos the vet wants to see him again wednesday so i'll have to go get him then instead
-chinquest_*
 good that he is fine and eating, I'm not sure on the root abscesses, I guess it depends why they happened Dunno.gif, lets hope that the anitbiotics clear them up and they don't return :crossfinger:

I bet he's being spoilt rotten by your parents :wink3: while you pine for him

Ok, my Rabble had two abcesses. Make sure your vet puts him on the correct antibiotic for them to clear them up. Rabble was on Baytril and it did not clear them up and they got worse (I'm not trying to scare you, honest hug4.gif ) Rabble ended up getting the teeth pulled but he unfortunately went downhill after the first surgery and did not recover from the second. I'm not sure if it was a vet issue or not but I would seriously suggest you talk to your vet, I know you trust him, about a good antibiotic to clear up the absess. hug4.gif

It's very good that he's eating ok, that's good news.

Good luck Giz

Great pics!!

the rabbits look great, really happy!! biggrin.gif
What flavour baby food are you using? and what brand?

Ours only eat the cow & gate brand, hate the other brands!! rolleyes.gif They eat the apple and pear - loves it
and the apple and apricot - prefer the other flavour tho!!
Picky buggers laugh2.gif

Thats so sweet! We have that bridge for our hammies!! laugh2.gif

 our rabbits shoud be happy!! they live in a giant shed full of straw with a big aviary they can play in at night and in the day have a huge garden to sit around in with loads of apple trees!! pampered bunnys!! :luv:

We have been using Organix in apple and strawberry just because thats what jason (vet) said most of his bunnys/guinea piggys liked but he'd never really tried it on chins.

I'l try the cow and gate - i know he loves apricot so i'l give that one a try.

Thanks

Lucky loved anything with banana in it (I can see the big array of baby foods building up laugh2.gif )

Hey all, ok thought id give you an update

well i went home on friday and picked up chuckie. i took him to the vet and weighed him and the vet said he weighed 410g!!!! unsure.gif

so i paniced cos thats like nearly 100g in a week he lost!! so i went home worrying and weighed him and it turned out the vets scales were wrong and he weighed 500g. i even checked on different pairs of scales to be sure!! rolleyes.gif

so i bought him home (yippee!! blower.gif ) and he has been ok, he seems bright and playfull, maybe a little quiet when in his cage but ok. he has though got a bad eye infection again which he gets every so often cos of his eyes being bad anyway so hes finally happy to be off the antibiotics and im stuffing cream in his eyes sad.gif

but im glad hes home, when his eyes are better he can see sooty again!!! biggrin.gif:

he is still a bit smal but im giving him every treat going and weighin him every few days so im hopng he will buck up soon :crossfinger: :crossfinger:
