Sadly, the time has come once again to let everyone know that we cannot take in any more rescues for the present time.
The reason being, we are overflowing and have a waiting list of chins waiting to come in as well.
We have been taking in chins from all over the uk lately - even our vet has had to collect a couple for us whilst on his travels.
We are extremely concerned at the amount of rescues needing our help, but unfortunately we cannot help them all.
It has reached the point where we are questioning what we do with the sick and permanent rescues that are not well enough to be re-homed. It is not our policy to 'turn our backs' on chins that need constant care and attention, but because of this we are now worried that healthy chins will be pts for no fault of their own.
This is not a position we want to be in, or enjoy being in.
Neither of us is God, we do not want to decide who lives and who dies.
Who will help the next rescue - where can they go???
With Xmas approaching, there will be more chinchillas that no-one wants - who will help them??
We would ask anyone that breeds to think about where your chins are going to end up - will they be on death row with the RSPCA - or will they end up being pts as no homes can be found for them
Sorry if this post sounds harsh, but perhaps if a few of you stayed here for a week, you would understand our worries and concerns for these lovely creatures that deserve so much more than we can give them

I have only spent a day at your rescue Roman and Jane and we have seen what hard work goes into the rescue with all the chins, whether they are ill, isck, not wanted, whatever....
Both bex and I were and are in awe of the work that you do for these critters every single day of the year and it is very difficult to be reading this message once again.
Here is hoping that there will be people rehoming chins/rescues very very soon and that the work load will be taken off you.

Jane, Roman and all the chins! Phil and I have the upmost respect for you and everything you do for all the animals you come into contact with not just chins! If it wasn't for you we wouldn't have four of our chins in our lives and there is not a day that will ever go by that we aren't grateful for you letting us give them a loving home to belong to. I hope other people out there realise what they are doing and take some responsibility to care for the animals out there who really do need it!
I just wish we could do something more to help I really do

I don't want to see/hear/think of any animal having to be pts unnecessarily. Is there anyway we could campaign for your charity status Jane as I know the idea has been floating around for some time I don't really know much about it but if we can help please let us know!

Now I totally agree witht hat Sarah! I so wish I could do more than the helping out every now and then. It's horrendous to hear that healthy and/or even sick chins get PTS because there simply isnt room at the chin rescues. I didnt know that was going on to be honest. It has made me feel sick reading this and maybe now- like we did with the Shed project, we could do some kind of Auction or even put things in our own local papers. I have no idea really.
I am thinking of going to a carboot sale and give Roman and Jane's rescue all the procedings that I get from that day.
Anyone maybe want to help or join me for that?
I have another kind of Sponsering in my head as well, but I need to do this with some more people who I will contact soon with my idea.
Hopefully this helps a little.
Jane I have a Giant JH cage here which Jasper used to have. Could that maybe help yopu with the mesh?
I will take it with me if you can use it next time I come along. Will PM you. Keep up the great work you are doing!

Thanks everyone for caring

it does mean a lot to both of us.
Thanks also to the ones that have sent emails and pm's - greatly appreciated
Am at work at the moment and brain not in gear.
Am feeling a little dismayed with the response from other forums though

I am sorry to hear that you are full with rescue chinchilla's, hence the reason I always go for a rescue animal or take animals off of people that are not wanting them anymore. That is why I have so many animals myself.
I just wish people that buy animals would keep them and look after them properly and not get bored after a while!
I hope things do get better for you and wish I was so much nearer so that I could help.

I know you have stalls at the chin shows anyway but people who attened the shows perhaps they could take a collection tin for the rescue every penny does add up to pounds! I know that at least on wags I would imagine that people who have the money to donate do so perhaps people could have whip rounds at work/school/uni etc to see if we can collect something that way?
Just a few ideas?

Need a license to do that Sarah - but thanks anyway.
The problem isn't money - at the moment - but we do need funds to run the rescue - our main worry is the amount of chins needing our help and want to draw it to the attention of the breeders.
Have just had to rush home from work. A lady has dropped off two chins she found in the house she is moving into today. They are in a container. She took them to a vet who supplied her with food and she found us on the internet.
So now have to find room for two more chins.

I can't begin to imagine how hard it is for you both to say no, no more room,
I know money is always a big issue but to run out of room

well there is no answer to that is there really
I have 7 of Jane and Romans chins here and I sponsor a couple more but I do feel guilty that I am not in a position to do more
I am always ready to help with fundraising though and another auction would do well, perhaps we should wait till after christmas and recycle all those unwanted pressies
keep us posted on how things are going and please try and keep your chin up Jane and Roman

Good idea! We have discussed having another auction or so but feel that the time before xmas is not ideal. But recycling unwanted pressies etc. sounds like a good idea!

Sorry to hear this Jane. I don't know what is going on this year, it is by far the worst yet. On top of all the usual individual hand ins there have been so many massive rescue cases where hundreds of animals have had to be rescued from single properties. I seem to struggle to find homes for chinchillas at the best of times with them often spending close to a year waiting for a new home with me, and I usually only have a couple at a time. Trying to find homes for so many chins must be very hard.

I am so sad to have just read this, i didnt realise that it was so bad, i've only just joined this forum, and until now hadn't realised there were so many unwanted chinnies about. so much so that there would even be a need for a rescue centre, im sorry if i sound ignorant, but up til now, everyone i have ever mentioned the word chinchilla to has been totally confused as to what one even is. so this is a bit of a shock to me. but its nice to see that there are people about caring enough to set up a home for the little darlings.

Thought I would update you on whats happening at the rescue.
This year has been very busy and, so far, we have managed to re-home 15 chins
But we have taken in 14

and have a waiting list of approx 12
The latest one is a darling 19 year old that was very well loved by her previous owners who sadly had to give her to us as he is travelling across the uk and Europe and doesn't have reliable people to care for her while away.
We have 16 currently under the vet with a further 44 being monitored (at the last count) and not forgetting the ones in quarantine, the permanent rescues and the chins ready and waiting for their new home
All we need now is a few more hours in the day

To describe yesterday, we can only say its is what rescuing is all about (as was last Saturday) - every mixed emotion possible, from laughter to sadness.
But with the help of special friends, we made it through the day - a day to remember.
By the way Claire, the bandage is off!!!!!

Two more chins coming in tomorrow and no idea where to put them..........and two degu's

We won't mention the chins I am collecting on Sunday
A little girl has to go in to the vets next week to have an eye removed, she has glaucoma, and will end up blind as she has a cataract in her other eye. A male has to undergo ear surgery due to an abscess and then theirs all the others on meds for various reasons.
Arrived at the vets this afternoon with chins for follow-ups and realised I had left one at home

am putting that down to my age!!!
Am ignoring all the paperwork that needs attention - hopefully it will disappear

Would it be possible to set up one of those things like they do on the tv where we could pay you so much a month Jane? I don't know about others but if £10 was coming out with all the other bills at the end of the month I wouldn't notice.
Would that be possible Jane? I know it isn't quite the lottery but at least you would know you had a certain amount coming in each month.

Once again all cages are full

and we still have a waiting list of chins to come in.
A few of the rescues are giving us cause for concern, Dirk will have to go in for an x-ray shortly as we are not happy with him at the moment although he is still full of character - once we manage to get him out of his nest box
A rescue that recently came in has an infection in his bum

and needs cream applying twice a day. The infection is coming down very slowly so it will be a long process.
Babe had to be rushed to the vets on Saturday as the end of her tail had been bitten, either by her or the female in the next cage - will be taking her to see Martin as I think the end may need amputating.
Blake, an old black velvet has been quiet for a couple of days, and today he has been dribbling. He is an old man who is already suffering from protein problems, so am a little worried about him
I now have a long list of chins needing meds every day - I have to write it down or I will forget
