Hi, I wrote that guide, I will repost here (Starring Stitch) -

***WARNING GRAPHIC PICTURES FOLLOW**********

Ok, here goes my picture guide to single handedly fur ring checking.....

Right, Take one 'Burrito'd' Chinchilla -

Firmly wrapped in Blankie, making sure the front paws are secure. Sit Chinchilla on your left hip (I am right handed, so i've no idea if left handed people will find it easier to sit Chinchilla on the right hip)
Using your left hand, firmly hold Chinchilla in place.

A short blanket is ideal, use your right hand to expose the penis -

Hold the blanket up with your left. Sometimes it's possible to get the back feet bound up in the blanket, this will stop your male being able to kick out (those toe nails can REALLY scratch!) or further wriggle his way out. if you bind him firmly, but not tightly, it should keep your Chinchilla calm.

Use your left hand (with your left arm 'holding' him) to hold the penis, with the right one ready to go. The right one can also be used to keep any stray legs out of the way -

Use your right hand to apply the Water-based lubricant to the tip of the penis -

Use your left hand to GENTLY! push back the foreskin whilst using the right to add more lubricant. Be very careful at this stage, as you can imagine, it's VERY sensistive!

Once you have pushed the skin back, i gently use the right hand to CAREFULLY extend the (well lubricated) penis to it's full length. In my experience with Stitch, it tends to be right where the foreskin meets the penis where he gets little blobs of fur.

It also ensures you haven't missed any stray bits of fluff -

Make Sure your Chin is well lubricated before doing so.

After you have removed and hair - this should be done by 'teasing' any rings apart, or sometimes i have managed to just roll the whole ring off gently. Do not cut the ring off, work it off - this will make sure no damage is done. Gently ease your foreskin back over the penis to make sure it is protected again.

if in doubt, seek Vetinary advice immediatly; fur rings are dangerous if left alone.
If you are not confident in what you are doing, again, a vet is the way to go devil.gif

Finally, Apologise to your poor wrapped up chinchilla -

As my sister is doing here.... :mhihi:

if you found anything though, i'm sure he's greatful to have it gone. biggrin.gif

***Disclaimer*** Techniques are based on my own personal experience and may not work for everyone. Utmost care should be taken by anyone attempting to remove a fur ring or perform a fur ring check to minimise/prevent damage to your Chinchilla. If in doubt, consult your Vet urgently!

P.s. Feel free to add this guide to the reference library if you want.

We watched a couple YouTube videos to get up to speed. I think the one below was one of them. Disclaimer: I think is THE calmest chinchilla I have EVER seen! I think it would take a long time to get my chinchillas THIS used to hair ring checks. But it does help to see someone physically extending and retracting the penis, I think. . .
